Wise words

How often have I caught myself trying to take control of a situation because I want it to turn out a certain way? More specifically, my way.

That's a problem Julie Pearl Stiles faces in my novel Pearl of Great Price. Two people she cares about are hurting, and she wants to "fix" them. Then a wise woman speaks these words to her, and she realizes God may have a better plan.

When have you found yourself in a similar situation? What did you learn from it?

CLOUDS named Maggie Award finalist!

I just love phone calls like the one I received yesterday! The coordinator of the Georgia Romance Writers Published Maggie Awards called to tell me my novel When the Clouds Roll By has been named a finalist in the inspirational category!

It's an honor and a thrill to see my name included among such a prestigious list of finalists:

A Lady Most Lovely, by Jennifer Delamere

Choices of the Heart, by Laurie Alice Eakes

Into the Whirlwind, by Elizabeth Camden

The Prayer Box, by Lisa Wingate

When the Clouds Roll By, by Myra Johnson

The novel was also named the WINNER of the 2014 Christian Retailing's Best Award in the historical fiction category, presented at the International Christian Retail Show in Atlanta in June! I'm so incredibly pleased with the recognition this novel has received!

Watch for book 3 in the series, Every Tear a Memory, coming this fall!

Two announcements about WHEN THE CLOUDS ROLL BY

What a thrill to learn this week that my novel When the Clouds Roll By (Till We Meet Again: Book 1) made the finals in two contests!

The first--and perhaps the most exciting--is Christian Retailing's Best Awards, where Clouds is a finalist in the historical fiction category:

Fiction: Historical

Flight of The Earls, Michael K. Reynolds (B&H Publishing Group)
Return to Me, Lynn Austin (Baker Publishing Group)
The Dancing Master, Julie Klassen (Baker Publishing Group)
What Once Was Lost, Kim Vogel Sawyer (WaterBrook Multnomah)
When the Clouds Roll By, Myra Johnson (Abingdon Press)

The second is the Cover Café contest for best cover for a book published in 2013. Clouds was chosen as a finalist in the Avant Garde category! Voting is open through May 21, so stop in and choose your favorites!

Welcome!

Just getting started at my new blog location. Thought it was time for a change. I'm about as random as a blogger can get, but you may find something new here from time to time.

In the meantime, you can usually find me in Seekerville, where I hang out with 12 other Christian authors and our chatty community of writers and readers. Come say hi and stay awhile!
